What Is Chi Alpha?

We are a Christian student organization at UAF focused on walking with God together and advancing His purposes on our campus. For many, if you are a Christian, you will be the only Bible most people read. Therefore, we take what Paul said to the Corinthians intently when he said that we are “Christ’s Ambassadors”. Each of us who takes on the identity of “Christian” becomes Christ’s ambassador – or christou apostoloi in Greek, which we shorten to the first letters “Chi” and “Alpha” or XA. Our goal is to see individuals reconciled to Christ and be sent out into the marketplace, the church, and the entire world to proclaim the good news of Christ with their lives.

We have a weekly worship gathering, discipleship groups, activities, retreats, and mission trips that all work to that end. Thursday night we meet to worship God, celebrate together what God has done in our lives, and listen to what God’s Word says to our hearts. Throughout the week small groups meet to hang out, encourage each other, discuss, ask questions, and walk with God together. At different times throughout the year we go on missions trips to expand our limited perspective and to develop the kingdom of God.  If you are a college student looking to get more deeply connected with other students in Chi Alpha, then small groups are for you! If you are interested in joining a small group, contact us for more info.

Chi Alpha groups are on university campuses all over the world. We’re a network of Christian ministries that look a little bit different on every campus – but here’s what you’re always sure to find: students who are hungry for God to impact their own lives, their generation, and the world. Transforming the University, the Marketplace & the World

We believe that campus ministry is one of the most strategic mission fields in the world. The university is a battlefield of ideas and attitudes. If we can reach students now and paint an accurate, beautiful picture of Jesus then we can reach the world!  Those who go to college go on to be the engineers, CEOs, doctors, law-makers, senators, judges, teachers, coaches; the people who go on to lead our world. Likewise, international students come from all over the world and return to their countries as people of influence; most of them never even entering an American home! We want the Lord to help us create an environment for students that can be a home away from home, where they know that they matter. An environment of fellowship, discipleship, prayer, worship, and mission. A place where everyone belongs.

I grew up in the church. I thought I knew Christianity, but it was just religion to me - a set of rules. One day on campus I met a guy named Keith, a Chi Alpha student, who showed me what a real relationship with Jesus looked like. My life has never been the same.
